Last weekend we had some of the best weather of the year so far. The sky was clear and the temperature inland was in the low 80`s and high 70`s at the coast. We decided to take a drive to the beach via Del Dios Highway. While driving past the dam at Lake Hodges we saw that the water was overflowing the dam. This has been a rare site in recent years due to California`s drought conditions. I have seen the water running over the dam many times and always seem to need to stop and take a longer look. We do not have many waterfalls in Southern California so this is our substitute waterfall.
Lake Hodges is a great place for hiking, fishing and bird watching. More information about the lake can be found at www.sandiego.gov/water/recreation/hodges.shtml .The lake is part of the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy http://www.sdrvc.org/ which is working on a coast to mountains trail. The trail will run from the beach in Del Mar to Volcan Mountain near Julian when complete. There are some wonderful spots through the Lake Hodges area and March and April are good times to experience them. The vegetation is green and the flowers are out. This is another place to Enjoy San Diego!
