San Diego County Lakes
San Diego County has 16 lakes for fishing and boating. Although there are actually more than 16 lakes, some are either inaccessible by car or too small to be considered a lake. All of the lakes are reservoirs and only one (San Vicente) allows water skiing. The lake in the photos is Lake Poway which is owned and operated by the City of Poway and has motor, row and paddle boats for rent. Lake Poway offers very good fishing and a full range of services including picnic tables, restrooms and a store with bait and food service. This is true of most of the lakes in the county. If you are not interested in fishing and boating, most of the lakes offer hiking trails and some like Poway have baseball/softball fields. When most people think of San Diego water activities they think of the ocean or Mission Bay, but San Diego has these great freshwater recreation areas to enjoy also.

Hidden Beaches
Last Saturday was an amazing beach day. It was around 80 degrees, clear and sunny. I decided to take a walk on the beach in Encinitas. I knew that the tide was low and that D Street beach could be a good bet. You see, some of San Diego's beaches are either inaccessible or have limited sand during higher tides. D Street has only neighborhood street parking so many people opt for the beaches with parking lots. It can be difficult to find parking on great days like last Saturday. Anyway, I was not disappointed as the beach was wide open and only had a few other people with the same idea as me. I walked south to Swami`s and back and only encountered a few other beach goers. What a great way to get away from the crowds. Remember to check your tide tables before heading to the beach as you could get caught in an incoming tide and have limited beach space. Enjoy!
